"Get out!" - Team bosses call on Plugge to resign as chairman of the AIGCP after controversial Uijtdebroeks signing

The news of a presumably completed transfer of the young Belgian Cian Uijtdebroeks from BORA - hansgrohe to Jumbo-Visma on December 1st made huge waves on Saturday evening and surprised not only many cycling fans.

In the meantime, several team bosses have also spoken out and are taking outraged action against the team boss of Jumbo-Visma, Richard Plugge. They accuse him of repeatedly acting against the principles of the AIGCP (International Association of Professional Cycling Teams). Cedric Vasseur, General Manager of Cofidis, even "loudly" called on Plugge to immediately resign as chairman of the AIGCP.

"What is this again from an AIGCP president??? Must respect the rules and resign immediately!!! Get out!" he posted in response to Plugge's announcement that he was welcoming Cian Uijtdebroeks to the team.

Brent Copeland, team manager at Team Jayco AlUla, summed it up succinctly but precisely: "Embarrassing is an understatement!"

"Whatever is the matter with Uijtdebroeks' transfer, the communication between Jumbo - Visma and Bora - hansgrohe confirms that the AIGCP will be the big loser of these events. The association and its president must clearly seek unity again to represent the teams," was a post from former BMC and Lotto-Soudal manager John Lelangue, which he prefaced with: "Unity and respect between each other is the key to making our sport and the teams stronger."

Back in July, it was leaked that many teams belonging to the AIGCP had sent a letter to Richard Plugge in which they demanded changes to the structure of the association and strongly criticized him.
