Stage 16 of the Tour de France 2025 had everything. Thanks to the final stage, the mythical Mont Ventoux, spectators were able to enjoy battles on all fronts. While the stage was contested in the breakaway and Tadej Pogacar was dueling for the overall with Jonas Vingegaard, Primoz Roglic put in the best performance of his entire Grande Boucle so far.
The veteran Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe rider finished the stage in 9th position, topping Mont Ventoux in a time that, in turn, allowed him to move up one place overall and overtake Kevin Vauquelin. Roglic is now 5th, and can even dream of climbing further in the Alps.
It's a rough year for Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, but suddenly they've become one of the many protagonists of the race thanks to Florian Lipowitz and Roglic. Although their leader is already Florian Lipowitz (who is still 3rd and on his way to a podium finish), Patxi Vila, sports director of the German team, was full of praise for Primoz in statements to Eurosport.
"I saw the best Primoz Roglic of the entire Tour de France today. This gives me confidence for the Alps," began Vila on the program "La Montonera" about the great performance of his rider.

"The start of the Giro d'Italia was not easy. The transition from the Corsa Rosa to the Tour de France was also complicated. But now I see him clearly improving his level. I think the time trial the other day (stage 13 in Peyragudes) was also very important. I think he's been improving since then," added Patxi Vila.
For Primoz Roglic, the goal is clear. He has Oscar Onley less than 40 seconds behind him in the general classification (38 in particular), and in the Alps he can go all out so that Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe have two men high up in the GC by the end of the week.
On the Col de la Loze and La Plagne, Roglic could ensure that his team leaves the race with 3-4 in overall standings. In context of racing against alien duo Pogacar-Vingegaard, that would make Roglic and Lipowitz the two best humans of the race.
