The Basque Country is one of cycling's most special regions, characterized every year by the passionate crowds and exciting racing. The Itzulia Basque Country is a race that has been taking place since 1924 and is one that frequently has many of the world's best stage-racers in competition due to it's timely placing in the spring.
Whilst many come here for results in a race that is usually packed with climbing-filled stages, many also come in preparation for the Ardennes Classics as this is the final stage-race before the trio of hilly classics in the Netherlands and Belgium. Despite not being a big region, it is very mountainous and holds dozens of hard climbs that vary a lot each year, always making for an exciting and fresh route.
