First Edition: 1933
Together with the Tour de Romandie, the Tour de Suisse assures the peloton rides through the central-European country throughout the year at World Tour level. In this race most of the country frequently sees the race go through.
Having had it's first edition in 1933 it is quite a long-standing race in the calendar, and one of the longest World Tour races on the calendar aswell as it features between eight and nine stages every year. Between those we find time-trials, mountainous stages, hilly days and courses to lure sprinters aswell. With it's proximity to the Tour de France, it is frequent to see some riders use the race as preparation, mainly the sprinters as it normally features a more sprinter-friendly route than the Critérium du Dauphiné.
