At the same time as Paris-Nice takes place, in the neighbor country of Italy there is a similar stage-race taking place. From the Thyrrenian sea into the Adriatic, the peloton swerve through a set of trecherous stages across the Apennines. It is often a warm-up race for those eying Milano-Sanremo, but it is also a launchpad for the classics, besides the obvious prestige that comes from the wins in the race and the overall classification.
