Davide Ballerini has been one of the most unlucky riders at the
Tour of Flanders today. He crashed alongside Matej Mohoric with 118 kilometers to go but rode on to the finish. The
Soudal - Quick-Step rider hit the deck in sight of the line and walked over with with blood on his face.
As he launched Tim Merlier into what would be 43rd position on the day, Ballerini touched wheels with Edward Theuns and was projected into the barriers. It was a dramatic finale for the Italian who raced for over 270 kilometers, only then to cross the line walking, with a member of the organization carrying his bike. The Italian finished 56th on the day, with Kasper Asgreen the best placed rider, in seventh place.
