It has been a very difficult Tour of Flanders when it comes to crashes. Several big incidents took out riders throughout the day. Yet another tumble with 72 kilometers to go has taken more contenders out of contention for the race, Biniam Girmay and Matej Mohoric included.
In a fast section of the race, as the riders prepared for one of the many bergs, a crash took place on the right side of the peloton. Girmay seemed to be the first to hit the deck followed by Mohoric, but several other riders were involved.
"Biniam Girmay & Aimé De Gendt crashed and leave the race. Both are heading to hospital in Ronse," Intermarché-Circus-Wanty communicated on social media. "We will give you news as soon as possible." Mohoric was also confirmed to abandon the race by Bahrain - Victorious.
