"A lot of suffering" - Matteo Jorgenson cracks Top10 at Tour of Flanders debut

Movistar Team was again in front in the Tour de France and Matteo Jorgenson has continued the Spanish team's successful campaign. Against the best in the world and on his debut, the 23-year old soared to a hard-earned ninth place.

A devastated Jorgenson after the race commented: "It all started from kilometer 0 and from that moment on it was non-stop, with just 5 minutes to chat during the whole day. Then I got caught in the big crash and had to change my bike, but Iván Romeo helped me and I was able to come back thanks to him;" he tells. Jorgenson was one of the several riders who was part of the key move with over 100 kilometers to go that anticipated the main attacks of the day.

However, the rider who finished fifth at the E3 Saxo Classic had the legs, but not the team, he explains how it cost him a lot of energy: "I lost the group, it was a mistake, I had no one to place me and I knew I had to be there because there was everyone but us, so I gave everything on a climb to get to the group but that cost me everything," he details. "Since then I was dead feeling that effort. A lot of suffering."

However from there on he rode an exemplar race, surviving the brutal pace over all the bergs and being within a fight for the podium. He could not respond to the attack of Pogacar at the Oude Kwaremont or the sprint of Pedersen and van Aert at the finish, but he crossed the line in ninth place, a very successful debut on such a difficult race that frequently requires experience to thrive.
