Matej Mohoric is one of the most prolific classics riders and this year he's put on quite a show both in and outside of the cobbles. Whilst he's got the quality to take wins everywhere else, his eyes are on the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix in 2024.
“For me, winning Milano-Sanremo was the realization of a dream, but Flanders and Roubaix are goals that I still want to achieve," Mohoric admitted in an interview with Cyclingnews. "That is what my focus is. The Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix are my two big goals for 2024.” This doesn't come as a surprise for the Slovenian who has frequently performed in the spring classics.
After the cobbles, likely as he's done this year, the Slovenian may still race the Ardennes before then focusing on the Tour de France once again. “I'm going for even more stage wins. I hope there will be opportunities for the attackers next year. I haven't looked at the route properly yet, but I know we will have a stage on unpaved roads.”
The gravel stage caught his particular attention, and whilst he is not completely in favour of it's presence in a Grand Tour, he does think he stands a chance - naturally, as he is the reigning Gravel World Champion. “However, I am not just looking at this stage. I have the luxury of not having to think about a general classification and being able to take some risks every now and then.”
