Mark Renshaw becomes DS at Astana Qazaqstan Team in support of Mark Cavendish - "We have some huge goals ahead of us in 2024"

The Astana Qazaqstan Team has announced a significant addition to its technical team ahead of the 2024 season. Former Australian pro Mark Renshaw, who most recently held the role of sprints and starts advisor for the team during the last Tour de France, will take on a new role as Sport Director.

At the age of 40, Mark Renshaw has forged a distinguished career in the world of cycling, both as a professional rider and in his role as technical advisor. His experience and expertise will be added to the Kazakh project in what promises to be an exciting and challenging season. Undoubtedly, this is another support for Mark Cavendish in his quest to be the rider with the most Tour de France victories.

Renshaw, following his collaboration with the Astana Qazaqstan Team in the last edition of the Tour de France, expressed his enthusiasm for taking on this new role. "I am very excited to take on the role of Sport Director with Astana Qazaqstan for the upcoming 2024 season. After working at the Tour de France alongside the staff and riders of the Astana Qazaqstan team, I knew I have more to give to professional cycling," commented the Australian.

The newly appointed Sport Director also spoke about his goals and the motivation that drives him in this new challenge. "With the support of my amazing family, to return to elite sport I believe I can help lead our talented riders to victory in some of the biggest and best races on the calendar. I have to thank Alexandr Vinokurov for giving me this opportunity to pass on my experience to the team. We have some huge goals ahead of us in 2024 and I can't wait to work towards achieving them with the team," Renshaw added.

For his part, Alexandr Vinokurov, general manager of the Astana Qazaqstan team, highlighted the positive experience of working with Renshaw during the Tour de France. "We had a very good experience with Mark Renshaw during the Tour de France. His help and advice was very useful not only in sprinting matters, but also in general in terms of race strategy. We had a nice conversation afterwards; we have a common view on many things about team development through the prism of race riding and race preparation. Therefore, I think that having a young sport director with a modern and different vision of cycling will help us to keep improving," Vinokurov commented.
