Rigoberto Urán is a crack and every time he speaks to the media he makes headlines. He was asked after the second stage of the Itzulia about the chances of his team, the
EF Education-EasyPost in the race and the Colombian complained bitterly about this year's route, which included a finale on stage 2 that was highly criticized.
"This Basque Country is a little bit different to what we are used to because they always do stages uphill and this year it's all downhill, what happened to the organization, why did they do this shit all downhill?" he said. Several riders did so, including even stage winner Ide Schelling, as the race organizers put a fast and technical descent to the finish, and a roundabout with only 100 meters to go.
The interviewer, a member of the Tour of the Basque Country organization, tried to explain to Rigo that they had decided on a slightly different route because of complaints about the always uphill finishes, something that didn't convince Urán who, always in good spirits, lamented the layout:
"This is a very important country in cycling, with many fans and how they put all the finishes downhill, why don't they do Arrate uphill, a typical thing, this year the Basque Country is an atypical race, that the Basques can't be happy with everything downhill," he concluded.
