From the 12th to the 16th of August the peloton will be in Denmark for the Tour of Denmark - or Danmark Rundt. The race has grown in level over the years and has at this point become one of the month's most important events, always with a star-studded field. We preview stage 3.
The third stage of the race will see the riders taking on a time-trial, perhaps the most important stage of the race GC-wise. The time-trial in Kerteminde will not be difficult, it's 14 kilometers long but it will create gaps and set the order ahead of the hilly days of the race.
Thus far the race has already experienced important differences in the overall classification as Mads Pedersen attacked and won the opening stage of the race, putting serious time into most of his rivals and so he will go into the time-trial in the race lead and most certainly will do so with his direct rivals. He carries 48 seconds to the majority of the peloton and only Lukas Kubis of the serious classics riders is a few seconds behind him.
The Dane will be a big contender to win the stage however he faces tough condition. The race was always going to be quite affected by this time-trial and so there are a few very strong riders in the discipline that are present, most notably Alec Segaert who is certainly the other big favourite to win the stage. But you have experience in Johan Price-Pejtersen, youth in Jakob Söderqvist, a climber in Mattias Skjelmose and a sprinter in Soren Waerenskjold who can all perform very well on such a course.
