Mass theft at Tour de France - 11 bikes stolen from TotalEnergies and gravel stage winner Anthony Turgis

It is something that seemingly does not happen so much in cycling anymore, but remains a sad reality. The Tour de France caravan has woken up today with unfortunate news that one of it's teams was a victim of mass theft. French team TotalEnergies had 11 bikes stolen overnight.

Jean-René Bernaudeau, team manager, has told RCM Sport this morning: "This is annoying, but the riders are not upset by it. We still have bikes in stock. The fact that we no longer have the toolboxes is especially annoying."

It is not clear the exact details of the theft but it is reported that the bikes of stage 9 Anthony Turgis and Thomas Gachinard were stolen. A total of €14.000 in financial damage was inflicted, it is not certain whether the rest of the bikes stolen were complete or just the frames. However it is known that besides bikes, the robbers also stole the team's toolboxes which are key for the mechanics' jobs.
