  I feel like he's probably not the type of guy who would get snitty about having to do his regular role in the team just cuz he won the rainbows. A bit like Sepp Kuss, who seemed uncomfortable with the leadership expectations placed on him after his Vuelta win. Some guys thrive on teamwork and doing that teamwork, so I would expect him to get a nice pay bump, and more chances at select races, but still be in the train for Tadej etc when needed.

  The plan was sound, WVA on MVDP. Remco on Sexias and Del Toro. But the signs were already there of his form, he prepared for the TT and road preparation suffered , his perf in the Canadian races told the story already. Wout i think did not/could not prepare since he was not the main leader. Looking at the Vuelta/Worlds common lists, all the Vuelta participants failed miserably. Maybe it was the jet lag conditions etc. Also the commentators are wrong, when your leader has failed, why would you go all in on that failed leader, that just stupidity. Multiple leaders are advisable in cycling with it uncertainty of crashes, tactics etc.

  I'm guessing the media reaction in Belgium has been, uh...spirited. Hellscape might be another word. And Wellens will really be getting raked over the coals again. I missed him. It isn't a proper bike race without Wellens honking about something or other.

  Almeida had long-running health problems this season, but last season he was the best one week stage racer of the year, and finished 2nd in the Vuelta behind only Vingegaard, so he shouldn’t be dismissed so easily.

  I don’t know why the rest of the French team started attacking once Bruno had finished his monster turn, surely they would have done better to stay with Paul and help him for as long as possible. Maybe Bruno’s turn was a bit too monster.
