So far, the professional carer of
Benoît Cosnefroy has been tied to French team that currently goes under the name Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. But after a decade in the team, Cosnefroy's contract will be running out at the end of this season and whether he'll continue to race for the same team is far from a certainty.
According to transfer expert
Daniel Benson, the odds of Cosnefroy's departure from Decathlon have risen considerably recently with Picnic PostNL named as particularly interested to sign the former winner of GP Quebec (2022) and Bretagne Classic (2021).
For Picnic PostNL, it's a rather logical transfer if we take into consideration the departure of their long-time leader Romain Bardet who will hang up his bike after the Criterium du Dauphiné. With sponsor keen to have a strong French leader and lack of competitive leader in hilly one-day races, the arrival of Cosnefroy ticks of all the boxes.
On the other side, Decathlon may not insist too much on keeping the 29-year-old on-board. With a strong generation of leaders lead by Paul Seixas coming up, the budget could become a challenge for the French team if they wish to keep all the youngsters for years to come. Cosnefroy who was held back by health issues at the start of the season is still an important rider who knows how to win, but his consistency at biggest races often leaves something to be desired.
