Lorena Wiebes adds record-breaking fourth back-to-back victory at Ronde van Drenthe: "I said beforehand that I wanted to win this race again"

Lorena Wiebes continues her winning streak at Ronde van Drenthe, adding fourth back-to-back triumph to her palmares at the Dutch classic with finish in popular VAM-berg. Her SD Worx - Protime teammates were always in control of things, with Christine Majerus contibuting massively to her victory in final kilometers.

"This has become one of my favorite competitions," said happy Wiebes. "Things didn't go well in 2019, but they have since 2021, haha! Christine rolled out the red carpet for me. She dropped me off right in front of the cobblestones. When I started there, I saw that I had a gap. That was great!"

Wiebes and Majerus had already attacked with a select group earlier in the race, but were captured again due to poor cooperation. "From the car we heard that several teams were leading the peloton. Then I looked back a few times and saw that they were short. We also had to be careful not to be surprised on the sidelines."

"I know that Elisa Balsamo and Charlotte Kool are also fast girls, but an uphill finish like that is just a bit different," concludes Wiebes, who indicates she was really motivated to win the race. "I said beforehand that I wanted to win this race again. The team has done a great job in that regard."
