Cofidis has secured one of it's main riders, as
Ion Izagirre's one-year contract has been renewed with the climber now secured with the French team until 2024.
Team manager Cédric Vasseur has said that "since his arrival in the team, he has accumulated very good results in the UCI World Tour. His exceptional level, his human qualities and his professionalism have made the Cofidis team grow. Ion is an essential asset in our desire to continue our progression at the highest level".
The Basque joined Cofidis coming from Astana this season, and has taken the win at the queen stage of the Itzulia Basque Country. Having finished second, aswell as seventh at Paris-Nice, Izagirre is playing a very important role in the team's maintenance fight at the World Tour.
"I am very happy to continue with Cofidis for the next two seasons. After these first months in the team, I feel good, I am comfortable with my teammates, with the staff. I can feel that everyone believes in me and that is a very good feeling," Izagirre said in a press release.
"Of course, this allows me to approach each race with more serenity and confidence. I can just focus on my performance, not worry about anything else and that helps me to do everything to shine," he added. Izagirre will be chasing stage wins at the Tour de France where he's currently at, alongside a strong Cofidis team that has several cards to play over several terrains.
