Info @Gazzetta_it - Still not decided Jonas Vingegaard scheduled for last part of the season. @JumboVismaRoad told us: "No news yet, he's training well and in the coming 2 weeks we decide the next steps. Still is @Il_Lombardia the big goal"
Jonas Vingegaard went through a physically and mentally draining campaign in 2022 as he built towards a maiden Tour de France win. Afterwards, the Dane has taken time off to enjoy his victory, and has taken some time to get back to the road.
In talks with a member of Jumbo-Visma, Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio was told that there are "no news yet, he's training well and in the coming 2 weeks we decide the next steps. Still is Il Lombardia the big goal". This comes as a confirmation of the Jumbo-Visma rider's initial idea to target the mountainous Italian monument late in the year.
Team coach Frans Maassen told the media recently that after the Tour "he has had a very tough time" due to the built up fatigue and agenda that comes with the victory at the Grand Boucle. This has delayed his return to competition which was expected at the Tour of Denmark. Jumbo hinted now that he will not return to competition in the coming two weeks, but could do so shortly after.
With Il Lombardia in mind, it is also possible that he will follow some of the Italian Autumn Classics into the final monument of the season.
