Wout van Aert's current contract with
Jumbo-Visma is valid for the next two seasons, however there is discussion that this contract may be broken in order to give way to a longer deal between the Belgian superstar and the Dutch team.
This practice is not unknown, however is unusual as usually these contracts involve different conditions and salaries. Biniam Girmay and Juan Ayuso are two examples of riders who have re-signed with their teams this season, overwriting their existing contracts into longer ones. Van Aert may be another to follow, as the team look to secure one of it's biggest stars for two extra seasons already.
This comes after the brilliant Tour de France where van Aert has gone on to win the green jersey, win three stages - all under different circumstances - and help Jonas Vingegaard to a very important title. The Belgian has since returned to competition to finish second at the BEMER Cyclassics and to win the Bretagne Classic. Van Aert also won Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and E3 Saxo Bank Classic, and managed to finish on the podium of Paris-Roubaix and Liège-Bastogne-Liège despite a Covid-19 infection which forced him out of the Tour des Flandres where he would be the man to beat.
If he signs into 2026 he will join future Norwegian teammates Johannes Staune-Mittet and Per Strand Hagenes who are already secured until that year. Jumbo-Visma are playing in the long-term as they already have eight riders signed until 2025.
