Movistar Team are having a disappointing Tour de France and it's not showing signs of improving. Fernando Gaviria has been close but has not won in the bunch sprints whilst Enric Mas GC aspirations have evaporated into thin air. Bradley Wiggins, who has battled this team in the past, can't help it but to show disappointment for the performance.
The likes of Alex Aranburu and Oier Lazkano have been very active as well in breakaways and important attacks but luck has not fallen their way. On stages 4 (to Valloire) and 11 (to Le Lioran) Lazkano was at the head of the race and looked to be the strongest in the group, but in both days UAE Team Emirates fully committed to going for the stage win and the Spaniard couldn't go through with their plans.
Now we come to the final stretch of the Grande Boucle, the hardest part and in 'The Move' podcast he and Lance Armstrong have talked about the teams that have not yet managed to win. In his opinion, they are going to have a hard time doing it because the hardest part remains and UAE and Visma are going to force a lot of stages and it will be difficult that many do not fall for those in the general classification.
Speaking of Movistar Team, they showed no mercy and Bradley Wiggins made it clear that for him "it's been a very disappointing Tour".
Armstrong said nothing, although he nodded, making it clear that he agreed with his colleague's opinion.
"Hopefully Gaviria..."
The one who developed the "disappointing" Tour of the Spanish was George Hincapie, who made it clear that in his opinion so far it is and that without victory, unless Fernando Gaviria remedies it, it will be until the end because that is the only thing that matters:
"So far yes, hopefully Gaviria manages to win one of the remaining sprints, but so far they haven't done too much. They were strong in the gravel stage, they finished second and had 2 or 3 riders in the breakaway, but the only thing people care about in our sport is first position and if you're not first you're nothing."
