Two for two! Jonathan Milan takes dominant sprint win on stage 1 of Deutschland Tour

Watts to use and abuse! Jonathan Milan won the prologue of the Deutschland Tour and despite putting his face to the wind in the finale of stage 1, he still went on to put out a sprint that had absolutely no match to consolidate his race lead.

Mauro Brenner, Nick Bangert and Anton Lennemann formed the breakaway of the day, one that wouldn't threaten the stage win however. Lidl-Trek after the win of Jonathan Milan in the prologue, took the responsibility in the peloton.

With 12 and 7 kilometers to go there were the summit of the two key climbs of the day. The first of which was steeper, with Santiago Buitrago launching an attack but being reeled in shortly after. Thomas Gloag, Tobias Johannessen and Archie Ryan created a gap right after in the final uphill section but the peloton was almost compact once again into the final kilometers.

Danny van Poppel and Mads Pedersen acted as luxury leadout in the stage finale but in the final meters of the stage there really was no doubt. Jonathan Milan sprinted head and shoulders above the competition to take his second consecutive win. Jordi Meeus and Max Kanter completed the podium.
