Sagan's return takes another blow as he abandons Circuit Cycliste Sarthe

The Slovakian champion has been trying to gather some form over the last few months after a second Covid-19 infection, but has struggled deeply, having abandoned several races this spring and having only two races where he was near the front at some point, in a sprint at Tirreno-Adriatico and Milano-Torino.

Having opted to not start the Tour des Flandres, with the goal of coming to the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe to build form towards Paris-Roubaix, he was left empty handed as he abandoned the French stage-race during the second stage. He finished the opening stage in 61st, but didn't finish the second stage for yet unknown reasons.
