INEOS Grenadiers are having a bad start to the Spanish stage-race. Despite recovering, Richard Carapaz took a tumble towards the end of yesterday's opening stage, and Luke Plapp who had helped the Ecuadorian in the chase lost time and his GC ambitions. Now on the second day, Richie Porte has been dropped early on, the Tasmanian was looking unwell and has abandoned the race with around 50 kilometers to go.
It is likely that Porte has caught an illness, possibly with the effects of yesterday's stormy weather in the race, where strong winds and heavy rain showers have put the riders under difficulty.
