Remco Evenepoel is perhaps the rider most likely to challenge the dominance of Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard at the 2025
Tour de France. The Belgian leader of
Soudal - Quick-Step will be doing so in a new piece of kit too, after launching his own cycling shoe with Specialized.
“Only with Specialized can I ask the product team for this shoe & race it 8 months later," says the double Olympic champion in a post by Specialized on Instagram. "Super light, great foothold, comfortable — it’s everything I need for races and stages with a lot of climbing. This is the exact tool I asked for.”
According to Specialized, Evenepoel's new footwear can be described as "The World’s Lightest for the World’s Fastest…at just 148.2g."
If you want a pair for yourself, they are available via the Specialized store. Be warned however, at €599 a pop, they are from cheap. But, if you have that kind of money spare, these could be the new cycling shoes for you!
The statement soundsso fake, you can just tell it was a company marketing executive who prepared something for him to sign off on as part of his contractual obligations. Unfortunately, people with that kind of money to throw around for fun or ego don’t buy with any thought about what they’re doing, and so, merchandising just gets more and more ridiculous.
