Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team have gotten a very promising rider in Mauro Schmid and the Swiss rider has taken his first win for the team today at the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali.
The move was made in the decisive ascent of the stage, that summited with 25 kilometers to go, with 3 kilometers at 9.5%. Mauro Schmid and Eddie Dunbar from INEOS Grenadiers rode clear of the competition and built a big gap which was enough for the duo to fight for the stage win.
Albeit cut, the duo managed to get to the finish in front and have a sprint finale, in which the Swiss was the fastest and took his first win with the Belgian team. Ethan Hayter won the sprint in the peloton behind followed by Mathieu van der Poel, with a gap of around 15 seconds that has seen the first differences made in the overall classification.
