OFFICIAL: Team Visma | Lease a Bike lose leader for Tour of Flanders - Christophe Laporte forced to miss monument due to illness

Christophe Laporte was initially given more opportunities to lead this spring as Wout van Aert followed a more specific calendar, but the European Champion has not had luck on his side. After missing out on all recent cobbled classics, he is also forced to miss Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Tour of Flanders.

"Unfortunately Christophe Laporte will not start Wednesday and Sunday in Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Ronde van Vlaanderen. He is not sufficiently recovered from a stomach flu and a saddle sore," Team Visma | Lease a Bike shared on social media.

The Frenchman first showed bad signs at Milano-Sanremo where he was dropped in one of the Tre Capi leading up to Cipressa. It could've been just a bad day but that turned out not to be true. Laporte has since dropped out of his expected schedule at the E3 Saxo Classic and Gent - Wevelgem, but a stomach flu and saddle sore prevent him from resuming racing at the moment.
