Relegation battle update: Top10s for Quintana and Bardet virtually secure WorldTour licences for Arkéa and DSM. Lotto Soudal will have to come back again after a disappointing #TDF2022 for Ewan. Full analysis with more graphics 👇
The new UCI points ranking has been revealed, with the updates from the Tour de France present, however with little changes to be accounted for as the teams in the bottom of the rankings largely missed the big points available during the Grand Boucle - as reported by Raúl Banqueri.
Lotto Soudal had been evenly matched with Team BikeExchange - Jayco before the Tour de France, however they have seen the gap expand once again as the team failed to perform, and BikeExchange brought in two wins from Dylan Groenewegen and Michael Matthews which see the gap in a full 441 points once again. The Belgian team is now also under attack by Israel - Premier Tech.
The Israeli team, like the previous two, also failed to have any GC impact, however with wins from Simon Clarke and Hugo Houle it managed to ride into the wheel of the Belgian team with only 101 points of difference. The battle remains tight heading into the final block of the season, where these three should be the main teams to keep an eye out.
If the World Tour wildcards were to be given according to the current standings they would be going to Lotto Soudal and TotalEnergies, however Israel - Premier Tech ride now only 405 points behind the French team, seeing them possibly jump into the automatic World Tour calendar selection which would be greatly beneficial.
Ahead of the three teams that are around the red line are Cofidis, EF Education-EasyPost and Movistar Team, all within a 510 points range of Team BikeExchange - Jayco, all of which teams who didn't manage to take many points from the Tour.
