Amund Grøndahl Jansen has revealed that he has been suffering with constant setbacks due to a groin artery issue, for which he has undergone several surgeries. These issues have meant that the Jayco AlUla rider has struggled to show his full potential since leaving Jumbo-Visma in 2021.
In an interview with In de Leiderstrui, Grøndahl Jansen described his issue and the difficulties that he has encountered, stating that “one leg would cease to function entirely, while the other would continue to function relatively normally. Cycling became excruciating, especially during consecutive days of riding”.
The Norwegian rider missed a large part of last season due to his multiple surgeries and he is now considering his future in the sport, as he stated that “my most recent surgery was in November in Genk. It appears to have gone well, and I’m able to cycle effectively now. Hopefully, that was the final one. If not, I won’t pursue further surgeries and will consider alternative paths”.
However, Grøndahl Jansen is optimistic about his future, as he went on to say “over the past year, I’ve undergone surgery four times, which has been quite challenging. However, it seems that chapter is now behind me, and I’m seeing some improvement”.
