"I don't regret anything because I gave it my all" - Andrea Bagioli settles for third place at Coppa Bernocchi

Wout van Aert won the 104th edition of the Coppa Bernocchi on Monday and was able to thank his Jumbo-Visma teammates afterwards. The Dutch formation took control of the race early on and was also in charge in the final, after which the leader managed to sprint to victory.

Van Aert was part of an elite group of nine riders in the final, including his teammates Jan Tratnik and Tiesj Benoot. The Slovenian managed to thin out the peloton on the last climb to become the decisive leading group, while Benoot took the lead-out in the final.

Soudal Quick-Step also had three riders in the first group, but Julian Alaphilippe, Andrea Bagioli and Fausto Masnada could not put up a fight against the yellow-black. Alaphilippe tried with a surprise attack in the final. "But that was mainly so that I wouldn't have any regrets afterwards. They were still there with three riders, which made riding away very difficult. I did try," he responded afterwards to Cycling Pro Net.

Bagioli, who finished third, had to bow down before the strongest team. "Jumbo-Visma made the race tough and controlled Julian's attack in the final. I then tried to follow Van Aert in the sprint and get over him, but that was virtually impossible. I don't regret anything because I gave it my all."
