Dario Cataldo returns home weeks after brutal Volta a Catalunya crash

Another step has been taken in the recovery of Dario Cataldo. After a dramatic crash at the Volta a Catalunya, where the Trek - Segafredo fell at high speed, he suffered several fractures and had to stay several weeks in medical care as a result.

The incident took place on the opening day of the race. The Italian veteran fractured a collarbone, ribs, vertebrae, acetabulum, greater trochanter and endured a pneumothorax as well. It was a list of very severe injuries which required serious medical attention. The 38-year old had in the meantime returned to social media to update on his improving situation, and has now returned to home in Italy.

"Yesterday Dario Cataldo was finally able to return home . After transferring to Italy, Dario underwent a successful last surgery on Friday and soon he will be able to start the physical therapy," Trek - Segafredo has announced. "At the end, an evaluation will be made to decide the next steps."
