BREAKING: Wout van Aert leaves Tour de France to join his wife, who is due to give birth soon

The Tour de France is decided in favour of Jonas Vingegaard (more than 7 minutes ahead of Tadej Pogacar in the general classification) and Wout van Aert will now leave the race to be with his expectant wife.

The Belgian has already warned that, should his wife go into labour, he would abandon the Tour de France regardless of the general classification. Luckily for Jumbo-Visma however he has been able to wait until the race is seemingly all sown up.

Today the rider announced his departure and Jubmo-Visma released a video in which van Aert himself explains his decision: "As everyone knows, Sarah is pregnant and things are getting tight. So, after consulting with the team, we have decided that my place is now at home. The doctor has told us that the baby will be born soon."

All of us here at Cyclinguptodate.com wish Wout van Aert and his family all the best!
