Enric Mas was ultimately awoken in the last stage of the 2025
Criterium du Dauphiné. His brave and attacking ride was however not rewarded with a stage victory as Lenny Martinez found even better legs than the
Movistar Team rider.
The Spaniard tried to escape alone, showing that he was one of the best in the breakaway of the day, but saw Martinez glued to his wheel. Then, in the decisive part of the race, the Frenchman went solo for the win, meawhile the legs of Mas stopped a bit and was caught by the group of favorites.
He finished sixth in the stage and cut three places in the overall to finish seventh. Undoubtedly, good sensations before the Tour de France:
"Not such a good day, but a good day on the bike, a good day in this race, Lenny had better legs today, I played for the win and finished sixth. To be honest, I'm happy with the performance thinking about the Tour and we're going home with good feelings in our legs."
In statements to the race organizers, the Movistar Team rider insisted that what had happened at the end of the stage was that Lenny Martinez had better legs, although he was satisfied with his work and that of the team and also looking at what this could mean for the next Tour de France:
"I had good legs, but as it turned out he had better legs than me so I can only congratulate him and Bahrain and thank my team for working hard for me all week, we finished with a stage win for Ivan (Romeo). I think the team is happy."
It is clear that Enric is still not an explosive cyclist, but also that trying can only bring him good things: today it wasn't the stage win, but thanks to riding on the attack he managed to gain 3 positions in the final classification of Dauphiné. And given the competition in this year's edition, the seventh place is by no means a bad result.
If he is this weak, then he has no hope for podium, maybe not even top 5. He should switch to stage wins as objective
