Israel - Premier Tech have taken yet another title in this edition of the national championships and once again they rule in Canada - the country of it's secondary title sponsor. Michael Woods became road race national champion for the first time in his career at age 37.
It is an important day in the career of the veteran who recently was not selected for the Tour de France. It was said the last spot could be between him and Chris Froome; but the team opted to choose Jake Stewart who will race in support of Pascal Ackermann in the sprints.
However Woods, who is likely to focus on the Vuelta a España and World Championships, displayed good form and put on a performance last night in Saint-Georges. He and (in theory) teammate Pier-André Côté of the Israel - Premier Tech under-23 team rode away from the rest of the field and built a gap of 10 minutes over third place. Woods won the race ahead of Côté, whilst Carson Miles took the last spot on the podium.
