One of the main options for the Spanish team, if not the best option of all, in this Glasgow World Championship is Alex Aranburu. The Movistar Team rider is aiming for a great performance in a race that, according to his own words, is going to be very tough for the Spaniards.
"I'm sure it will be a very difficult race," Aranburu said. "The circuit is very street and ratty. There are very strong teams, like Belgium or the Netherlands. I wouldn't know what exactly will happen, but it's true that nowadays races are breaking earlier and earlier. In fact, in the World Championships it has already happened."
Aranburu arrives at the Glasgow World Championships in very good shape, especially after a good experience at the 2023 Tour de France, which he also spoke about in the lead-up to the World Championships: "I felt very good physically. In 2021 I remember that I arrived empty in the third week, but this year it was different. In terms of results I'm not very happy, as I didn't get it right in the breakaways, but the level has been there."
Recapping the worlds the Movistar rider explains how he believes that, despite having good form, the resolution of the race will be more a matter of strategy: "I think the World Cup will be resolved from the placement. The peloton will break into pieces. For the spectator it will be nice because there will be a great show, but for the riders not so much," adds Aranburu with a laugh.
Finally, Alex Aranburu spoke about his own expectations for the World Cup and the result he hopes to achieve individually. "I guess, like everyone, I would like to be in front and dispute the victory. I think we have a good team to anticipate everything that can happen and the final moves. Of my teammates, I think the ones who are best suited to the course for victory are Iván García Cortina, Gonzalo Serrano and also Ion Izagirre, who has been very good in the Tour," he concluded.
