"There will be no conflicts here" - Belgian coach defiantly shuts down rumours of discontent within World Championship team

Heading into the men's elite World Championship road race in Glasgow, the Belgian team full of stars are potentially the heavy favourite to once again secure the Rainbow Jersey. With such a star-studded team however, comes it's own problems.

The likes of Tom Boonen and Jan Bakelants have criticised the lineup selection for the Belgian team. The problem being with Wout van Aert, Remco Evenepoel and Jasper Philipsen, does the team have too many leaders? National coach Sven Vanthourenhout however, has defiantly shut down any of the rumours of discontent.

"I can already say that there will be no conflicts here. The selection is based on what these guys can do," explains Vanthourenhout. "We should certainly not underestimate their qualities. The 9 guys who are at the start here deserve that. They will all play their part. I am really convinced of that. Anyway, it is a matter of discussion every year."

"Everyone knows why he is here and it will show on Sunday. Although that is of course no guarantee of success. But I am 100 per cent behind this team," he concludes. "Whether this could be something for cyclo-cross riders? Yes, look at the 2018 European Championship with Trentin, Van der Poel and Van Aert on the podium. These are not coincidentally 3 ex-cross riders."
