Matej Mohoric confirmed to race Unbound Gravel 200: "I'll definitely do my best and enjoy my day in the rainbow jersey"

Matej Mohoric will participate in Unbound Gravel 200 next Saturday. The gravel world champion previously hinted at participating in the prestigious competition in the United States, but now his team Bahrain - Victorious has confirmed that the Slovenian will indeed start in Kansas. His teammate and compatriot Matevz Govekar will join him at the start.

"I'm looking forward to making my debut in Unbound Gravel 200," Mohoric said on the Bahrain - Victorious website. "It will only be the second gravel race of my career (last year's World Championships was his first clay race, ed.), so there are still many question marks. I honestly don't know what to expect. The race is a lot longer than last year's World Championships. It's double the distance, double the time, double the elevation gain, so this suits riders with more endurance."

"I'm not sure how I'll do against the others, but I'll definitely do my best and enjoy my day in the rainbow jersey. It will be a unique, once in a lifetime experience. I'm going to get everything out."

For Mohoric, his participation in Unbound Gravel also means his return to competition. The former winner of Milano-Sanremo has not competed since the Tour of Flanders, where he had to retire after a crash. He suffered no broken bones from the fall, but did suffer a tendon injury and a deep cut. For that reason he removed Paris-Roubaix and the Amstel Gold Race from his program.
