Laurens Sweeck took his revenge against Elis Iserbyt with victory in Maasmechelen. He took the lead in the early laps and maintained it till the finish line to score his first victory of the season.
Yesterday, he missed the victory in Ruddervoorde and blamed Iserbyt for not helping in the chase. However, Sweeck says this victory “was not driven by frustration.” He continues, "It is perhaps good that there is some life in the cross. I'm happy that luck is falling my way for once. I was close a few times and showed that I can compete with the best. The plan was to stay out of trouble by being at the front as much as possible and not getting stuck behind others.”
Additionally, it is Sweeck's first World Cup victory and he is very happy with his accomplishment. He already finished second twice in Waterloo and Fayetteville, and last week, he finished fourth in Tabor. "I've been very close a few times already. I'm glad it finally worked out," concluded Sweeck.
