Yves Lampaert finished runner-up in the individual time trial at
Baloise Belgium Tour. On the 15,2 km long course, the Belgian rider lost 12 seconds to winner Søren Wærenskjold.
"I had a very good start, but in the last four kilometers I really began to suffer and couldn’t keep the pace I had in the beginning. I can’t say I am disappointed, just that I would have liked to be closer to victory. All the riders with GC ambitions here wanted to do well in the time trial. We have two riders in a good position ahead of stage four, when we hope to be again up there," Lampaert said in team's press release.
Lampaert came back to the day in an Instagram story, where he expressed condolences for Gino Mäder: "A hard day on the bike, especially mentally. Hearing the news about Gino, a colleague rider but above all the loss of a person, someone’s friend and son. Another loss for the cycling-family, during the sport we all like the most."
The 32-year old Belgian is currently third in the general classification, 10 seconds behind Mathieu van der Poel who becomes the race's new leader thanks to bonification seconds gathered in previous stages. Today's winner Wærenskjold is one second behind Alpecin-Deceuninck rider.
