VIDEO: Kaden Groves sprints to victory as Mark Cavendish slides across the line in chaotic bunch sprint at the Giro d'Italia

A day that will life long in the memory for all the wrong reasons, stage 5 of the 2023 Giro d'Italia was marred by multiple crashes including one in the final 100m as Mark Cavendish slid across the finish line on his side.

Kaden Groves of Alpecin-Deceuninck who himself had hit the deck earlier in the day, clearly had bounced back well as he proved to have more than enough power left in his legs as he took the first Giro d'Italia stage win of his career.

Mark Cavendish however, competing in his first bunch sprint finish of this year's Giro d'Italia, seemingly lost the back wheel as the treacherous weather conditions played their part. The British national champion flew into Filippo Fiorelli, pushing him into the barriers and then sliding across the finish line on his side.

Impressively, Cavendish still managed to place 5th in the sprint despite the fact he wasn't even up right! Chec out the drama in the video below.
