The UCI decides to award a UCI World Champion title in the road race and time trial in the Women Under 23 category bit.ly/3Bp7WCo
Changes will be made to the World championships as a new category emerges, as the under-23 women's peloton will have from this year onwards a specific category and medals attributed.
This week marked the first meeting of the new UCI Management Committee and from this emerged a new set of World championships that will be for the first time implemented in the coming seasons.
The most noteworthy of those was the creation of a title for the under-23 category in women's road racing. This new title, both in road race and time-trial will have it's own separate event from 2025 onwards in the World championships in Rwanda.
However, those titles will be attributed from the World championships from this year in Wollongong, Australia, but the under-23 riders will be in the same peloton as the Elite women, which has sparked some controversy. This decision is justified by the UCI "for technical and logistical reasons and due to commitments already made".
