Surprisingly it was only the Dutch's fifth win of the season, but in the final round of the X2O Trofee Denise Betsema got a surprising and strong win in Brussels.
On the technical track at the Brussels Universities campus a tough race was expected, a fast start was crucial and that's where Betsema did her move, entering the technical sections in the front and get a gap early on in the race in the opening lap. An unfamiliar sight, Lucinda Brand was having to chase back and on the second lap showed the true nature of the course by crashing on an off-camber section, and having to chase back alongside Annemarie Worst.
It was a short race with Denise Betsema completing the six laps in less than 45 minutes but it was enough for Betsema to take her fifth win of the season, over three months after her last one in the Zonhoven World cup, and has finished runner-up to Brand on all the cups.
Lucinda Brand missed out on the win but nevertheless mantained the lead of the X2O Trofee to become it's winner, and Manon Bakker rode a strong race to finish in the third spot.
