Gazzetta dello Sport has for some weeks been following Italian veteran
Domenico Pozzovivo and according to the Italian news source, he has signed a contract for the Belgian
Intermarché - Wanty - Gobert Matériaux team.
After the end of Team Qhubeka NextHash many riders were left without a contract very late into the year, with some stepping onto retirement, others managing to sign a last-minute contract, but between those who were left in the dark was Domenico Pozzovivo. After several weeks of contacts in the background, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the transfer is complete, with only an "official communication missing".
Pozzovivo is currently thirty nine years old and has raced his last two seasons with the disbanded Team Qhubeka NextHash, showing in the Tour de Suisse and Vuelta a Burgos the quality necessary to still win as a professional.
The Italian is one of the most experienced riders in the peloton and has thirteen wins to his name as a professional, the last one being at the 2017 Tour de Suisse. His last result of the 2021 season was a 30th spot at Il Lombardia, after recovering from injury at the Vuelta a Burgos.
