UAE further bolster classics squad as they signs former under-23 World Champion Filippo Baroncini

UAE Team Emirates have begun the transfer season hitting big targets. The already incredibly strong team has signed Pavel Sivakov and Nils Politt, and have now announced the transfer of Filippo Baroncini on a two-year deal

"UAE Team Emirates has always been a team that I have observed with a lot of admiration. From the outside they always seem really determined and united so to be part of that group is something that always interested me," Baroncini said in a press release. "I would like to thank [Joxean] Matxin and Mauro [Schmid] for the strong interest and desire they had in me, since I was under 23. UAE are the first team in the world in the UCI ranking and to be so it requires having a winning mentality and big ambitions and characteristics that reflect me as a rider, so I will do my best to reciprocate their trust and make the step in my career I am looking for.”

The team reinforces it's stack of Italian riders, Baroncini is a classics rider and rouleur. Under-23 World Champion in 2021 back in Leuven, he turned pro with Lidl-Trek the following winter and became a domestique in the American team. His role will remain the same, but as he progresses he could eventually find the freedom to chase his own results. He signed with the team all the way into 2025.

The 22-year old is another valuable addition for the team's 2024 roster, manager Mauro Gianetti talks of what was a deal in the making for a long time: “Baroncini has shown a steady progression over the past years and as a former world champion we can see immediately the kind of talent he has. We hope he can continue to show more of what he has to offer with us over the coming seasons.”
