Stage 2 of the Tour de Suisse Women had several highlights, with a breakaway victory from Amber Kraak; the raid of Katarzyna Niewiadoma and Elise Chabbey; but perhaps most notably the lack of collaboration between Marlen Reusser and Demi Vollering, which has resulted in very high tension.
The race leaders and Movistar rider certainly did not have good words to say regarding Vollering after the end of the stage. “I have to be careful with how I phrase this. Demi isn’t someone who takes much responsibility in moments like this. She panics a lot, and if she would just act a bit more normal in the race, we wouldn’t end up in dangerous situations".
By dangerous situations Reusser refers to the time lost to the group that was ahead - whilst not an overly dramatic loss, the two have lost 30 seconds to their rivals and saw both come closer in the overall classification.
This was the result of Vollering's unwillingess to cooperate with Reusser, according to the Swiss rider. “It makes the race more interesting, but it would be even more interesting if Demi had anything to do with it. Of course Kasia [Niewiadoma] gained some time, but it should still be manageable. Not great, not terrible, just okay.”
“For us, it was perfectly fine to let a breakaway go, that way the bonus seconds are taken off the table, including at the finish. As long as the breakaway didn’t win by more than eight minutes, it was all good. We set the pace on the climbs, but otherwise just let the race unfold.” This Sunday into Kussnächt the race should be decided when it comes to the GC, and the two enter today's third stage separated by a mere 4 seconds, as a result of the bonifications Reusser conquered on the opening day of the race.

Another one who can’t ride her own race. If you have to rely on rivals for your performance, you’re pretty dumb to pick ones you know are unreliable. And yes, you should be careful how you say things, dangerous gave a very false impression.
