Tour de Suisse: Daryl Impey wins reduced sprint on stage four

Israel - Premier Tech have taken a surprising win, as in today's fourth stage of the Tour de Suisse veteran Daryl Impey sprinted to the win out of a reduced group. It was the South African's first win since the 2020 national championships.

The day's breakaway was marked by Jimmy Janssens (Alpecin-Fenix), Markus Hoelgaard (Trek - Segafredo) and Mattew Holmes (Lotto Soudal). The peloton didn't have too many difficulties controling the group, with Bahrain - Victorious and Movistar Team taking most of the responsibility.

The final riders in the peloton to be caught happened with 17 kilometers as the riders headed into the day's main climb. Although an attacked by Marc Hirschi temporarily saw the GC riders attempt, most of the climb was ridden by pace and a group of around 30 riders went over the summit.

Sebastien Reichenbach attacked in the summit, but with the work of EF Education-EasyPost the group went into the final kilometers compact. The stage went down to a sprint between the riders who survived.

EF Education and INEOS Grenadiers had the leadout dialed in, but in the final sprint the riders coming from behind had the speed, and it was Daryl Impey that took the final win - a very important and unexpected for Israel. He did a brilliant sprint, beating Michael Matthews and Soren Kragh Andersen. Stephen Williams arrived in the front group and kept the race lead.
