On the 5th of June, 2025, the latest instalment of the historic Maillot Jaune rivalry between
Tadej Pogacar and
Jonas Vingegaard is set to begin at the
Tour de France. With so much hype surrounding the dual, even the rest of the pro peloton are starting to get excited.
In conversation with TV2.de,
Intermarché - Wanty's Danish star Alexander Kamp was one of a number of rider's asked to give their preview on the Pogacar vs Vingegaard battle at the 2025 Tour de France. Despite having a sense of allegiance to his compatriot Vingegaard, Kamp admits his fellow Dane is going to have his work cut out to get a third Maillot Jaune win of his career next month.
“Jonas is good, but he’s not going to improve by five or ten percent before the Tour de France starts — and we can’t count on Pogacar getting any weaker," begins the 31-year-old, two-time former Danish national champion. "No one is beating Pogacar with the level he’s shown this year and last. He’s simply dominant.”
According to Kamp, not only is Pogacar the strongest rider heading into the Tour this year, but the Slovenian world champion can also lean on the strongest team in the entire peloton as his support at
UAE Team Emirates - XRG. “UAE have a strong team. Visma are strong too — but Tadej is the best," Kamp analyses. "Last year, we saw him make up two minutes on Matteo Jorgenson by himself on one of the final stages. What can you do against a guy like that? He is just a machine.”
Groupama - FDJ's
Stefan Küng was also asked to give his thoughts on the dual, with the Swiss time trial specialist suggesting only a sense of complacency could threaten Pogacar's Maillot Jaune dominance. “Arriving at the Tour overconfident may not be a great idea, but Pogacar is Pogacar," Küng explains. "He’s been incredibly hard to beat over the past year, so it’ll be tough for Jonas.”
