Total UAE dominance today at Tour de Suisse. 💪🏼 Adam Yates confirming his top form with a win, but also Almeida, after all the work… wow. 👏🏼 This is what I told, that it would be better for Almeida if he would’ve been in a different team. #TDS2024
Stage 5 of the 2024 Tour de Suisse was another exciting day in the general classification fight. Again, UAE Team Emirates proved strongest as Adam Yates took the win ahead of Joao Almeida with the duo firming their grasp on the top-2 in the general classification.
With the dust settled, this means that Yates holds a 35-second lead over Almeida himself, who remains 2nd. Egan Bernal moves up to a provisional podium that he now completes with a 1 minute and 11 second gap to the yellow jersey. Behind, Enric Mas was much improved and moves up to 4th place, 1 minute and 49 seconds behind Adam Yates with the impressive Israel - Premier Tech youngster, Matthew Riccitello up to 5th overall. The winner of the 2023 edition, Mattias Skjelmose fell behind very early on the final climb, and as a consequence he lost three positions, dropping to 6th place, 2 minutes and 17 seconds off the lead.
As for the rest of the top 10, Oscar Onley is 7th, losing one position from where he started the stage; Tom Pidcock moves into the Top 10 by moving up three positions to 8th; Cian Uijtdebroeks loses one position to 9th after the stage; Sergio Higuita completes the Top 10.
