Tom Pidcock "recovered pretty quickly after Milan-San Remo" and is eyeing the cobbles according to INEOS

Tom Pidcock has had a start to the season derailed by stomach issues which have either kept him out or hindered from his big goals so far. With the main spring classics lying ahead, the Briton still has the opportunity to make up for loss results, and INEOS Grenadiers are confident that he'll be able to overcome this tough period.

INEOS team manager Rod Ellingworth has told Cyclingnews that “he’s alright, he’s been training well. He recovered pretty quickly after Milan-San Remo. He’s fine now, he’s been training okay and I think he’s looking forward to the Classics,."

Pidcock hasn't been able to complete a race day since the opening weekend where he looked to buildup form to the spring, after a resting period that came after a World title in cyclocross. He returned to competition at Milano-Sanremo where he had high ambitions leading the team, but was forced to abandon early.

“No, he trained well before that. I think it was something we couldn’t really put our finger on, to be honest, he just had bad guts. So we’re not 100% sure, but he seems okay now. Somebody like Tom will always be busy with objectives and he’s got quite a few things he wants to tick off this year, so I’m sure he’ll be back this week," he added.

Pidcock is returning to competition today at Gent-Wevelgem where he will be one of the many cards for INEOS. He's planned to go to Dwars door Vlaanderen next week before riding the Tour des Flandres: “He’s meant to be racing on Wednesday, so fingers crossed he’ll be there. I say it like that, but it just seems to be coming from all directions at the minute," Ellingworth concluded.

INEOS Grenadiers for Gent-Wevelgem: Tom Pidcock, Jhonatan Narváez, Luke Rowe, Ben Swift, Ben Turner, Elia Viviani and Dylan van Baarle.
