Tim Merlier continues winning streak after tight photo finish with Jordi Meeus at Gooikse Pijl 2024

Soudal - Quick-Step's European champion Tim Merlier has taken the victory at Gooikse Pijl 2024 after a tight photo finish with Jordi Meeus, continuing his impressive end of season winning streak.
Six riders entered the final 40km leading the peloton by just over a minute and a half. Most notable among them probably being Rune Herregodts of Intermarché - Wanty and Jacopo Mosca of Lidl-Trek. At around 8km to go though, the catch was completed.
From there, a sprint finish seemed all but guaranteed in Gooik. In the end that's how things transpired too as Jordi Meeus and Tim Merlier needed an agonising photo finish to decide the victor, with Olav Kooij taking third place.

- I don't mind seeing Froome in the peloton, but he's a multimillionaire, he shouldn't take money that could give a few young guys, maybe more, a spot on a pro team. If he wants to ride it should be for no salary or much less. I say this without really knowing what he is making now but I assume it's decent amount.awp22-05-2025
