Once the Tour de France is in the rear window, attention for most will turn to the World Championships in Glasgow. Next year though, the biggest event is the Paris Olympics. With the course now revealed, Mathieu van der Poel's excitement is growing.
"This is a course that should suit me," the 28-year-old Dutchman from Alpecin-Deceuninck tells NOS, whilst currently at the Tour de France, after watching the official course being revealed. "This could be a classic in Flanders."
There's also a keen attention being paid by van der Poel to the mountain bike course. The Dutch superstar having previously revealed his attention to try and double up at the Olympic Games, both on the road and off it.
"I still have the mountain bike planned in the back of my mind," he admits, also refusing to rule out a return to mountain biking at the 2024 Paris Olympics after failing to take gold in the discipline in Tokyo. "We'll have to look at that."
